Gum disease treatment

Bone loss and teeth loss are not the worst consequences of untreated gum disease.

The constant inflammation and infection affects your overall health.

Take care of your gum disease today.

Before treatment. Note the inflamed (red) gum and tartar (calculus) accumulation.

After a thorough cleaning and proper maintenance, the patient now has a much healthier, stable gum condition.

gum grafting

AND

bone regeneration

Your gum and your bone are the foundation of your teeth.

By regenerating your gum and bone, we strengthen your teeth and make them last longer.

Before treatment. Note the exposed roots on the two front teeth. Patient feels sensitive to cold water and cold air.

Before treatment. Note the exposed roots with inflammation. Patient feels painful when brushing. He can not keep the area clean.

After gum grafting (root coverage), the roots are covered and protected, sensitivity is gone, and it looks much better.

After gum grafting (root coverage), the roots are covered and protected, the gum tissue is much thicker and stronger, and he can finally keep the area clean.

Education

Periodontists have three additional years of education beyond dental school. During periodontal residency, residents are exposed to all facets of clinical periodontics, including periodontal surgery, implant surgery, soft and hard tissue grafting, sedation, periodontal prosthesis, tooth movement and adjunctive orthodontics, orthodontics for periodontally involved cases, and integration of all disciplinaries of complex dentistry.

Dr. Ling recieved the Best Resident Award at the graduation ceremony of the periodontic program of Penn Dental Medicine.

What should I expect during my consultation?

During the consultation, your periodontist usually reviews the patient’s medical and dental histories. It is extremely important for the periodontist to know if any medications are being taken or if the patient is being treated for any condition that can affect periodontal care, such as heart disease, diabetes, or a history of smoking.

Your periodontist will evaluate the severity of bone loss from your x-rays, and detect if you have deep periodontal pockets and/or inflammation.

We offer a wide range of treatments, including:

- Scaling and root planing.

- Root surface debridement.

- Surgical periodontal procedures.

- Local delivery of antibiotics.

- Periodontal maintenance.

Each individual's condition is different. Your periodontist will evaluate your overall condition carefully and develop a customized treatment plan.

Our ultimate goal is to save as many teeth as possible, and to help you to maintain a good, long-term oral and overall health.

Don't wait any longer.
