Board-Certified Periodontist in Murphy, TX

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease, and in the placement of dental implants.

Education

Periodontists have three additional years of education beyond dental school. During periodontal residency, residents are exposed to all facets of clinical periodontics, including periodontal surgery, implant surgery, soft and hard tissue grafting, sedation, periodontal prosthesis, tooth movement and adjunctive orthodontics, orthodontics for periodontally involved cases, and integration of all disciplinaries of complex dentistry.

Dr. Ling recieved the Best Resident Award at the graduation ceremony of the periodontic program of Penn Dental Medicine.

Gum Disease

During the consultation, your periodontist usually reviews the patient’s medical and dental histories. It is extremely important for the periodontist to know if any medications are being taken or if the patient is being treated for any condition that can affect periodontal care, such as heart disease, diabetes, or a history of smoking.

Your periodontist will evaluate the severity of bone loss from your x-rays, and detect if you have deep periodontal pockets and/or inflammation.

Periodontists offer a wide range of treatments, including:

- Scaling and root planing.

- Root surface debridement.

- Surgical periodontal procedures.

- Local delivery of antibiotics.

- Periodontal maintenance.

- Laser periodontal treatment.
